Badger fans: Be aware of construction areas on Saturday

Close to 80,000 Wisconsin football fans are expected to descend upon Camp Randall Stadium for the Badgers’ season-opener with Northern Illinois Saturday evening and UW Athletics officials are advising fans to be aware of areas of construction in Madison and around the stadium.

For well more than 100 years, a succession of eminent biologists and ecologists have used Wisconsin lakes as their laboratory, dissecting their physical attributes as well as the complex interplay of the plants and animals that live in them. UW-Madison’s ‘good ideas’ get lift from stimulus funds

The university has drawn more than $38 million in funding for more than 120 research projects and programs from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The work is spread across the range of academic disciplines, including public health, computer science, psychology, economics and engineering. Funding comes from agencies such as NSF, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Energy and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The World Health Organization has raised the Global Pandemic Phase to Level 6, signifying the presence of a pandemic. This change reflects the continued global spread of the novel H1N1 influenza virus. As in many other parts of the United States, H1N1 influenza cases continue to occur in communities throughout Wisconsin, including Madison and on the UW–Madison campus.

Women’s lightweight rowing wins another national championship

The Wisconsin women’s lightweights have done it again. Make it two consecutive national titles and five in six years after the UW varsity lightweight eight won the 2009 Intercollegiate Rowing Association national championship Saturday on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.
