Two poets present ‘Lyric Innovations’ at library reading

March 21, 2006

Brenda Hillman, author of seven books of poetry, will read from her most recent volume, “Pieces of Air in the Epic” (Wesleyan University Press, 2005), on Thursday, March 23.

Described as a poet who writes at a solitary angle, Hillman often favors birds as a literary image and/or metaphors. She has received awards and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Society of America, along with a Bay Area Book Reviewer’s Award, a Pushcart Prize and the Delmore Schwartz Memorial Award.

Srikanth Reddy recently published his first book of poetry, “Facts for Visitors” (University of California Press, 2004). Some of the poems were written while Reddy was working for a rural literacy program in the south of India.

Hillman and Reddy will read at 4:30 p.m. in 976 Memorial Library. The reading is free and all are welcome. For additional information, call 245-0952 or e-mail Ljsims50@hotmail.com.
