TIP/Canon testifies on Voting Rights Act

June 21, 2006 By Dennis Chaptman

David Canon, a University of Wisconsin–Madison political science professor, testified today before members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on the extension of the Voting Rights Act.

Canon urged members of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Property Rights to extend the act, calling it “one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation in U.S. history.”

Canon is an expert in American political institutions, especially Congress, and in race, representation and congressional reform. He is also a co-author of the award-winning 1999 book “Race, Redistricting and Representation.”
