Tickets top 10,000 for Badgers vs. Tennessee

November 30, 1999

Ticket sales for the Wisconsin women’s basketball match up against Tennessee Sunday, Dec. 5, have been brisk with 10,624 sold as of Dec. 30, according to athletic officials.

The 25th-ranked Badgers (3-1) take on the 3rd ranked Lady Vols (3-1) at the Kohl Center at 1:30 p.m.

“This is a much-anticipated game for us,” says Wisconsin Coach Jane Albright. “Tennessee is the program we want to be, and it’s an opportunity for our fans to see the women’s game at its best.”

Tennessee Coach Pat Summit is second only to John Wooden, the former UCLA coach, in the category of National Collegiate Athletic Association titles won – six championships to Wooden’s 10. The Lady Vols have won the NCAA Division I title three of the past four years. Albright was a graduate assistant to Summit in 1981-82.

Wisconsin set a cumulative attendance record of 136,182 in 18 home games last season that ranked first in the Big Ten and third in the nation behind Tennessee and Connecticut. The Badgers averaged 7,566 per game. UW’s single game record is 16,329 vs. Northwestern on Feb. 1, 1998, but has yet to sell out the 17,142-seat facility for a women’s game.

This is the fourth time the Badgers will play Tennessee with the Lady Vols leading the series, 3-0.

Tickets: $7 for adults, $3 for UW students, youths 17 and under, and senior citizens. Call 262-1440 or 1-800-GOBADGERS. Tickets are also available at the door.
