Teresa Smith to head oncology nursing services

Teresa D. Smith has been named the program director for oncology nursing services at UW Hospital and Clinics.

Smith’s extensive oncology background spans 13 years, most recently including a two-year stint as the administrator of service lines for the University of Tennessee-affiliated Baptist Memorial Health Care system, a 16-hospital system in Memphis.

Previously, Smith served as administrator with the Regional Cancer Center at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill., and the director of cancer services with McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Smith also currently serves as the secretary for the Association of Community Cancer Centers, a national cancer group focused on promoting clinical research, education, patient access and legislative issues related to cancer care.

Smith holds a master’s degree in nursing from South Dakota State University where she specialized in medical-surgical nursing and composed her graduate thesis on the topic “The Major Needs of Women Who Have Survived Breast Cancer.”

She also holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Augustana College (S.D.).
