Staff electronic earnings statements available in ‘My UW’

February 28, 2006

A few days before each pay day, each employees at UW–Madison receive a blue, tri-folded piece of paper — their earnings statement. On it is information regarding their paycheck, including what they made during that specific pay period, as well as information regarding tax and benefit withholding. What many aren’t aware of is that UW–Madison faculty and staff can also access their earning statements online through the “My UW- Madison” portal.

The “My UW–Madison” portal is an easy-to-use, secure gateway to online information for UW–Madison students, faculty and staff. The “My UW–Madison” portal is available at http://my.wisc.edu/. This portal can be accessed at any time, from any computer that has an Internet connection.

To log in to “My UW–Madison,” faculty or staff members must first have activated their NetID; this can be done by following the link labeled “Activate your NetID” located on the “My UW–Madison” main page, or directly at https://www.mynetid.wisc.edu/activate.

The earnings statements are located in “Work Record.” Users can click on the “Work Record” tab to navigate to the screen where the earnings statements are posted.

The electronic version of the earnings statement is posted to “My UW–Madison” sometime during the afternoon of the day after each payroll is processed; payments are not deposited in the bank or made available for pickup until the actual pay date. By contrast, it may take the paper copy of the earnings statement several days to finally make its way to employees’ mailboxes. Also, because the electronic copies are kept online for at least 18 months, employees never need to worry about losing or misplacing their earnings statements.

Employee Compensation and Benefits services has prepared a Web page that addresses frequently asked questions regarding the electronic earnings statements: http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/ecbs/emp-faqs-student-earnings-statement.html. For more information, visit http://www.doit.wisc.edu/myuw/index.asp.
