New faculty members, including (left to right) Lisa Alexander, Christina Ewig and Stephanie Tai, get a welcome to Madison and an introduction to the university during an informal one-day seminar at the University Club. The event offered new arrivals a chance to meet each other and hear presentations from administrators, including Chancellor John Wiley and Provost Pat Farrell.

Graduate student teaching assistants attend a two-day Writing Across the Curriculum training session organized by the Writing Center. During breakout sessions, the TAs explore some of the issues they will face as they integrate writing instruction into their courses. Most of the graduate students attending the training will teach writing-intensive “Comm-B” course sections this fall; these sections offer smaller class sizes and include an emphasis on speaking and writing skills in addition to other course material.
