Space still available for Badger Watch conference on Jan. 6

December 8, 2010

There are still spaces available for the fifth annual Badger Watch Safety Conference on Thursday, Jan. 6.

It will take place at the Memorial Union from 7:45 a.m.–3:45 p.m. The event, which is sponsored by the UW Police Department, is free and open to all members of the university community.

Badger Watch is the university’s award-winning crime prevention program and a collaborative effort that includes more than 1,500 volunteers. If you would like to become a Badger Watch volunteer, all you need to do is attend the initial training session.

The conference includes several new breakout sessions with topics such as Student Alcohol Issues, Travel Safety, and Crime Prevention Surveys. There will also be a session on Crime Scene Investigation, which will involve a mock burglary. Participants will work with a UWPD detective and evidence technician to discuss evidence and analysis.

There will be a three-hour Introduction to Self Defense course and a CPR course, both of which require registration. There are still openings available.

Conference presenters include experts from UW Police, UW Health Services and the Department of Kinesiology.

To register, visit Office of Human Resource Development and use your campus net ID to log in and register. The deadline for registering is Monday, Jan. 3.

If you have any registration questions or concerns, contact Officer Erik Pearce at 265-5223.
