Showcase returns for 12th year

March 2, 2011

UW–Madison’s 12th annual Showcase will feature more than 50 poster exhibits and optional breakout sessions focusing on ways to improve process on campus.

The exhibits and breakout sessions will be held from 8-11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, in the Memorial Union’s Great Hall. A keynote session will be held in Tripp Commons from 11:15 a.m.-1 p.m. Registration for the keynote includes a box lunch.

Darrell Bazzell, vice chancellor for administration, will welcome attendees at 8:30 a.m., and Provost Paul DeLuca will offer comments later in the morning. Exhibits and sessions will highlight adaptable ideas such as building statewide communities of practice; using cell phones to collect data; creating a residential learning community; mentoring students; redesigning websites; and using surveys to measure climate and customer satisfaction.

In a departure from previous years, the lunchtime session will feature six presenters using a novel format called “Pecha Kucha.” Each speaker will present 20 slides within seven minutes, combining key concepts and practical applications. Presenters will include a dean, an award-winning student, an author, an athletic recruiter and others from campus. They will address topics such as building trust within teams; sparking innovation; recruiting talent; and surmounting boundaries to build collaboration. Other presentation formats will be highlighted in short videos.

Showcase is free and open to the campus community. Register and view complete program information online. For those unable to attend, the site will continue to display the content from the event and provide contact information for learning more about the featured improvement projects.
