Show presents humor with heart

March 26, 2003

Ask organizers of Humorology, Wisconsin’s largest non-profit student organization, what the name of their organization means to them, and they probably would tell you that it’s not the study of humor itself, but an exercise in what can be produced using humor.

Humorology will stage its 56th performance this year in early April at the Wisconsin Union Theater. The themed comedy variety shows are open to participation by anyone, but are traditionally organized and performed by different sorority and fraternity houses on campus.

Proceeds will benefit Camp Heartland, a non-profit organization that provides children affected by HIV/AIDS the chance to have “the best week of their lives,” through camp, social and educational experiences.

Event organizers will create a separate endowment fund to provide incoming freshmen with scholarships to attend UW–Madison. Organizers wanted to create a non-academic scholarship, targeting students involved in music, theater and the arts who have an interest in community service.

Last year’s show raised $35,000, and organizers hope to top $50,000 this year. Aly Teich, one of the show’s co-producers, says this year’s rehearsals are “going wonderfully.”

Tickets for the general public are $17 on Thursday April 3, and $20 Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on all three days. Students with a valid ID can purchase discounted tickets Thursday night for $14 and Friday night for $17. All tickets are available at the Wisconsin Union Theater Box Office or by calling 262-2201.
