Sexual Assault Awareness Month highlights

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and UW–Madison survivors and activists have assembled a full slate of activities ranging from lectures and training sessions to a climbing wall. The Clothesline Project

Tough Guise: Violence, Media and the Crisis in Masculinity

Bascom Hill Display
9 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday, April 23
Display will feature three black and one white silhouettes to symbolize that one in four women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetimes.

Get Up, Climb Up: Support Student Survivors of Sexual Assault
12-3 p.m., Thursday, April 24, Library Mall
Climb the wall and make a donation to the Dean of Students Crisis Fund to help student survivors of sexual assault. Contact: Lori Henn, 265-5966, ljhenn@facstaff.wisc.edu.

These Hands Are Not for Hurting
9 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, April 24, Library Mall
This activity, primarily aimed at men, invites campus community members to place their hand imprints on a banner to express their personal commitment to nonviolence and support of sexual assault survivors. Contact: Men Making a Difference member Dave Corkle, djcorkle@wisc.edu.

Take Back the Night March and Rally
5 p.m., Saturday, April 26, State Capitol
Rally on the Capitol steps at the top of State Street, and march down to Library Mall to raise awareness of sexual assault and demonstrate support for survivors. All are welcome. Contact: Alana Brennan, alana_brennan@hotmail.com.

Sexual Health Festival
11 a.m.-3 p.m., April 25, Library Mall
Sponsored by Sex Out Loud, the event will include informational tables, guest speakers and activities promoting safer sex, healthy relationships, and HIV and AIDS awareness. Contact: Sex Out Loud, 262-5625.

Candle Lighting/Day of Reflection
Tuesday, April 29 – St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center Chapel, 707 S. Mills St.
The campus community is invited for a moment of prayer or reflection and to light a candle to honor survivors of sexual assault. Contact: St. Marys, 251-6100.

Silent Crimes, Outspoken Voices Throughout April
Upon request, PAVE representatives will visit student organizations and campus units to tell the stories of sexual assault survivors, and talk about issues including consent, alcohol, prevention and resources. To schedule a session, e-mail paverequests@yahoo.com
