Roundtable lunches set for fall

September 12, 2002

The fall 2002 Roundtable luncheon series will include three presentations for the fall semester, including remarks from UW System President Katharine Lyall.

The roundtable opens Wednesday, Oct. 16 with Francis Halzen, professor of physics, who will discuss “Ice Fishing for Neutrinos at the South Pole.” Halzen is a researcher helping develop the IceCube neutrino telescope project. The Antarctica-based telescope will measure and chart the path of neutrinos, the smallest particles of matter, as they pass from space through the earth.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, Lyall’s discussion “The UW System at Yogi Berra’s Fork in the Road” will offer a condition report on the UW System and its relationship with the state.

The series wraps up Wednesday, Dec. 11 with a performance by “Madhatters,” the university’s male a cappella choir.

The buffet lunches begin at 11:45 in Tripp Commons in the Memorial Union and end around 1 p.m. They are open to members of the university community and the public. The cost is $9 per person, and reservations must be made one-week prior to each luncheon. Attendees may also pay $25 for all three lunches, if reservations are made by Thursday, Oct. 10.

Reservations may be sent to Colleen McCabe, 270 Bascom Hall, 500 Lincoln Drive, Madison 53706, and paid for with cash or a check made out to “UW Roundtable.” Attendees may arrange to pay at the door by contacting McCabe, (608) 263-2985, cmccabe@bascom.wisc.edu McCabe says seating is limited, so make your reservations early.
