March 26, 2008

The 27th annual Crazylegs Classic will be held on Saturday, April 26, with Heisman Trophy winner and former Badger football star Ron Dayne serving as the event’s grand marshal. Dayne currently plays for the NFL’s Houston Texans.

If you register online by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 18, the cost will be $25 for the 8K run and wheelchair race and $20 for the two-mile walk.

Fun and Fitness teams, which must have at least 10 members, can choose to participate in either the run or the walk for $30 per person. Any group, family, organization or business can form a team. Team registrations have to be in by 4 p.m. on Monday, April 14.

After April 18, the run/wheelchair race entry fees will be $35 and the walk $25, and registration will be by walk-up only at the race packet pick-up site from noon-8 p.m. on Friday, April 25 and from 7–9 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the Kohl Center.

Organizers say walkers will encounter some exciting changes this year, including a wave start, a new route and a new start time. They are hoping that a new record will be set for participation in the walk, which begins at 10 a.m. at State and Carroll streets.

Walkers will line themselves up in one of three sections, depending on their desired walking pace: speed walkers, casual walkers or walkers with “accessories.”

The wheelchair race will begin at 9:45 a.m. on the Capitol Square, and the run will start on the square at 10 a.m.

The first place men’s and women’s finishers in the run will receive a Trek Madone 5.2 Road Bike valued at more than $3,200, courtesy of Wisconsin-based Trek Bikes.

All registrants in the Crazylegs Classic will have a chance to win a Northwest Airlines ticket. Early registrants have the greatest chance of winning.

A postrace celebration featuring refreshments and entertainment will be held in Camp Randall Stadium.
