Regents approve two new undergraduate majors

December 8, 2000 By Barbara Wolff

The UW System Board of Regents approved two new undergraduate majors for UW–Madison at the board’s Dec. 8 meeting.

A bachelor of arts degree in religious studies will allow students to examine in depth a variety of world religions including Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism and more.

Students studying for a new Jewish studies degree will be able to focus on a particular aspect of Judaism such as Jewish history, philosophy, literature, music or law.

UW–Madison’s interdepartmental Religious Studies program will offer the religious studies major. The university’s George L. Mosse-Laurence A. Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies will administer the Jewish studies major. Both are housed in the UW–Madison College of Letters and Science.
