Recent sightings: Gutted

April 23, 2009

The remaining east-west expanse of the third floor of the Education Building has been gutted to the building’s shell. The windows are positioned high as the open space was initially used for drafting tables in the early 1900s. The $34 million renovation of the building will add a three-story east wing, restore the wood-paneled main lobby and central staircase, and add a central commons area with views of Lake Mendota. The historic building renovation began January 2009, with completion expected by summer 2010.
