Boston Globe reporter Anthony Shadid, who was shot in the shoulder while covering the fighting in the West Bank city of Ramallah March 31, addresses students April 12 at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Shadid was in town to receive the Ralph O. Nafziger Award for distinguished achievement by an alumnus within about 10 years of graduation. Shadid earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science. Awardees for distinguished service in the profession of journalism included Daniel Baumann, publisher and deputy editor of the Arlington Heights, Illinois, Daily Herald; Anja Carroll, director of media for McDonald’s Corporation; and Leonard Shapiro, sports columnist for the Washington Post.
