Two members of the crew team chop their way through the ice in order to practice on the open water of Lake Mendota.

The icemen goeth
Undergraduates Peter Nagle, left and Scott Alwin, both crew team members, got a little spring fever on this past 62-degree weekend and decided to hack their way to open water on Lake Mendota. “That water needs to be rowed,” explained Nagle. The two spent more than an hour with ax and sledgehammer creating a watery path for their aluminum boat to pass from crew house to open lake. Photo: Jeff Miller

Photo of twin dancers

Nell and Laine Curtis, undergraduate senior dance majors – and twins – perform in this multiple-exposure photo made at a workshop last weekend at Lathrop Hall. About 24 high school students attended the day of learning sessions and performances set up by the Dance Program. Photo: Michael Forster Rothbart
