Photo of decorated lockers

Magnetic personalities
Many of the student lockers in the hallways at the School of Veterinary Medicine are adorned with photos, magnetic words and fuzzy stuffed friends — personalized glimpses into the lives of many of the lockers’ owners. The school often feels like a large family, says Susan Hyland, associate dean, and many visitors enjoy “an opportunity to see where our students are coming from.” To support the sentiment, yet discourage paint damage to the lockers, the school provides students with magnetic picture frames.

Photo of visitors being spooked at haunted house

Scary for charity
Ghoulish groans and frightful screams filled the night as visitors experienced masked creatures, graveyard scenes and a mock surgery in a haunted house at the Old Horse Barn Oct. 26-27. Organized by the student organization UW Saddle and Sirloin, the event attracted some 600 people and collected more than 200 food items for Second Harvest Food Bank.
