Public Notice: Herbicide Spraying Scheduled in Arboretum Natural Areas

May 14, 1997

May and June visitors to Picnic Point, Frautschi Point, Bill’s Woods and Caretaker’s Woods — all part of the UW–Madison Arboretum’s Campus Natural Areas — may see signs announcing herbicide applications. The Arboretum is working to control garlic mustard, a fast-spreading weed that is already smothering the ground layer in some of the natural areas.

The Roundup herbicide will be applied in the most severely infested areas. A colored marker dye will be used to show where it has been sprayed. More detailed information on the spraying is available on the Safety Department web site. Visitors may also contact Cathie Bruner with the Arboretum at (608) 265-3355.
