Post-9/11 GI Bill advances available to students

November 18, 2009

The Post-9/11 GI Bill is a new education benefit that will provide tuition and financial support to veterans attending institutions of higher education.

Due to the high volume of applications, the Veteran’s Administration (VA) has received, processing time has increased.

However, eligible veterans can now receive up to a $3,000 advance, which will be recouped from future benefit payments. If you are a student who applied for one of VA’s education programs and have not yet received your monthly benefit payment for the fall 2009 term, you can request a one-time advance payment at the nearest VA regional office in Milwaukee, or online.

UW-Madison currently has 418 veterans enrolled, 110 of whom are currently using the Post 9/11 GI Bill to pay for tuition and fees. This number is expected to increase in the coming semesters.
