Photographer probes relationship between land, people

September 5, 2006

Growth and change, the seasons, the topography and, perhaps most tellingly, the human influence on the land is the stuff of photographer Gregory Connif’s new exhibition at the Chazen Museum of Art.

Most of the images have been created expressly for this show, which continues until Sunday, Nov. 5. They are printed in a four-black ink process recalling 19th century. “I am interested in work that defines and protects the vanishing, commonplace beauties that let us know we’re home,” says Connif, who trained as an attorney at the University of Virginia.

He will discuss the work in the exhibition at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, in L140 Chazen. A reception will follow upstairs.
