Partners in Giving starts Oct. 8

October 3, 2007

“We Make It Happen!” is the theme of the 2007 Partners in Giving campaign2007 Partners in Giving campaign, which begins Monday, Oct. 8, and runs through Friday, Nov. 30. Employees will soon be receiving their campaign materials, including their personalized pledge forms, from their campaign coordinators.

Last year 9,700 state, university and UW Hospital and Clinics employees made it happen by contributing a record $2.9 million to the workplace fund-raising campaign, now in its 35th year.

Since its inception in 1973, the campaign has raised more than $47.5 million for charitable causes. It is carried out by hundreds of employee volunteers.

This year the goal is to raise $3 million, but campaign committee chair Gary Sandefur would like university employees to remember that participation in Partners in Giving is more important than how much they individually are able to give to the campaign.

Last year just 17 percent of university employees contributed to Partners in Giving.

Participating in the campaign is a convenient way to support the charitable organizations of your choice. This year there are more than 470 from which to choose.

Donors have the option of giving through payroll contribution, cash or check.

Only 3 percent of the dollars pledged to Partners in Giving are used to cover campaign expenses, due to the fact that many services are donated or provided at discounted rates and most of the labor is provided by volunteers.
