Parking permit application process under way

May 6, 2003

Transportation Services has set a Friday, May 30, deadline for faculty and staff to apply for their annual 2003-04 parking permits.

Annual parking permit rates for base lots will again fall into four categories: $162 for park-and-ride commuter lots and $400, $650 and $990 for other base lots. One change from the current rate structure will apply to business alternate permits; in 2003-04, permit holders will be required to pay $75 for the previously free permit.

Transportation Services is again using an online application process. Each customer must have a logon identification and personal password, both of which were sent by letter or e-mail to customers April 29. New employees and those who did not receive the letter or e-mail should contact their unit parking coordinators.

Transportation Services will continue to offer several alternatives intended to decrease demand on campus parking, including free campus buses and free Metro bus passes for faculty and staff. The flex-parking program will be expanded by 100 participants, and there will be three new flex lot choices. Flex parking cuts down on campus congestion and pollution by encouraging commuters to walk, bike or bus to work.

The deadlines for each step are:

  • May 30: Deadline to apply for parking.
  • July 17: Parking assignments e-mailed to customers. Customers then use the Internet to claim and pay for parking assignments. Permits will be mailed out to customers prior to Sept. 1.
  • Aug. 8: Deadline to claim parking assignments. Unclaimed assignments are offered to customers on waiting lists.
  • Sept. 2: New permits must be displayed on vehicles.
