Park Street construction resumes

April 5, 1999

The second summer of Park Street reconstruction between Regent Street and University Avenue resumes today (April 5). In order to minimize traffic disruption in the campus area, the project will be carried out in phases over the next six months.

The first phase, expected to continue through mid-May, will concentrate on completion of the two west lanes of the new road from Regent to West Johnson Street. During this phase, traffic will continue to use the east lanes, as it has been doing since that side of the roadway was re-opened last November. However, starting Monday, motorists will not be permitted to make turns from Park Street on to College Court, Fahrenbrook Court, Spring Street, Dayton Street and Clymer Place.

From mid-May until the end of August, Park Street between Dayton Street and University Avenue will be to closed so that crews can construct new northbound and southbound lanes there and rebuild the Johnson Street intersection.

The entire project should be completed in November. The new roadway will include two traffic lanes and a bike lane in each direction, turn lanes and a grassy median.
