Outstanding alumni chapters earn highest honors

The Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) has honored 17 outstanding alumni chapters around the country for their work to provide support for local alumni and maintain a strong connection with the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

WAA has recognized the 2010 Bascom Chapters for promoting UW–Madison in their local communities and engaging alumni. Bascom Chapters receive additional support from WAA to help them meet the diverse needs of a wide range of graduates.

“Our chapters all over the country are involved with their communities and provide a local Badger connection for alumni,” said Renee Ramirez ’83, chair of WAA’s national board of directors. “This year’s Bascom Chapters are exceptional groups that create well-connected communities for new and experienced alumni all over the country.”

The WAA Bascom Chapters for 2010 are:

  • Bay Area Badgers Chapter (San Francisco)
  • Big Apple Badgers Chapter (New York City)
  • Boston Area Chapter (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine)
  • Brown County Chapter (Green Bay, Ashwaubenon, De Pere, Wis.)
  • Chicago Chapter
  • Chippewa Valley Chapter (Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Menomonie, Wis.)
  • Los Angeles Chapter (Los Angeles, Hollywood, Long Beach, Pasadena, Calif.)
  • Mile High Chapter (Denver)
  • Milwaukee Chapter
  • Motor City Badgers Chapter (Detroit, Mich.)
  • Orange County Chapter (Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Mission Viejo, Santa Ana, Yorba Linda, Calif.)
  • Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley Chapter
  • Rochester Chapter (Rochester, Pine Island, Zumbrota, Mazeppa, Byron, Kasson, Mantorville, Stewartville, Winona, Minn.)
  • St. Louis Chapter
  • Twin Cities Chapter (Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Coon Rapids, Minn.)
  • Washington, D.C. Chapter
  • Waukesha County Chapter

Beyond hosting events such as Badger game watch parties, Bascom Chapters offer educational and community service events, and make themselves well known by working with recent graduates and establishing a presence within local organizations.

Earning the Bascom Chapter designation brings special support from WAA, such as educational and programming grants and a Matching Dollar Scholarship donation to expand opportunities for local students.
