Online learning topic of March 12 Roundtable Luncheon

February 25, 2003

There is still time to sign up for the next installment of the Roundtable Luncheon Series, which will feature Barbara Emil, executive director of UW Learning Innovations.

Emil’s presentation, “Learning Online in Wisconsin: Options, Obstacles and Opportunities,” takes place on Wednesday, March 12. The registration deadline is March 4.

Learning Innovations provides UW System campuses with support and expertise as they develop online degree and certificate programs.

Emil will discuss how online programs represent the Wisconsin Idea of extending the resources of the university beyond its borders. The “anytime, anyplace” aspect of online learning makes it an attractive option for non-traditional adult learners, providing educational opportunities for people throughout the state and beyond, wherever they live and work.

The next Roundtable Luncheon features folklorist Jim Leary on Wednesday, April 9. He will speak on “Oh Cheesehead, Where Art Thou?”

The buffet lunches begin at 11:45 a.m. in Tripp Commons in the Memorial Union

and end around 1 p.m. They are open to members of the university community and the public. The cost is $9, and reservations must be made one week prior to each luncheon.

Reservations may be sent to Colleen McCabe, 270 Bascom Hall, and paid for with cash or a check made out to “UW Roundtable.” Attendees may arrange to pay at the door by contacting McCabe, 263-2985, cmccabe@bascom.wisc.edu. Seating is limited.
