Night time is the right time for art

October 3, 2005

Hot glass, fake grass and combat class will come together for a night of eclectic, artistic adventure at UW–Madison’s Arts Night Out! on Saturday, Oct. 8. Artists, performers and organizations from across campus invite people to experience the arts, from traditional to cutting edge, and at no charge.

Participants will be able to practice their putts at an artist-designed miniature golf course; get fired up at a pottery demonstration of raku-glazing and glass art; learn how stage-fighting scenes are put together; experience cross-cultural dance; hear the artists of the future at a special concert from UW–Madison School of Music students; and much more. The events at “Arts Night Out!” are open to the public.

This evening of sound, vision and live performance begins at 4 p.m., but some gallery and demonstration events begin earlier in the day. For more information and a complete schedule, visit the Arts Night Out! Web site, call the Campus Information and Visitor Center at (608) 263-2400 or stop in the Red Gym, 716 Langdon St., for an event brochure.

“Arts Night Out!” is sponsored by campus arts organizations and departments, the Campus Information and Visitor Center and the UW–Madison Arts Institute.

The arts at UW–Madison are rich in tradition and continue to lead the way in excellence and innovation. The university’s first gallery was built in 1877 and today, the university’s art galleries, museums, libraries, and working presses educate students and welcome visitors. The university offers a dazzling array of more than 1,500 performing arts events each year.

These events often have reasonable ticket prices or are even free, providing an opportunity for families, students and community members to experience high-quality performing arts without the high prices.
