UW-Madison Transportation Services has created the new system to ensure the safety of both moped users and the campus community by assigning parking lots for each moped permit as well as designating several all-access lots where any permit is valid during the day and permits being valid in any lot after 4:30 p.m. each day.

Users can apply for the $120 moped permit beginning Aug. 1 on the Transportation Services web site.  The selection of assigned lots is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Moped users who live on campus will have the right of first refusal to select moped lots near their residence hall.

Listening sessions were held in advance of the creation of the new system which allows moped users to know exactly where they will park instead of driving from lot to lot looking for an open stall which will reduce traffic congestion and increase safety.

Mopeds, like other motorized vehicles, are meant as a mode of transportation to get to and from campus.  Like other commuters, moped users are encouraged to walk or ride the campus bus around campus.
