Appointed

Tom Browne was named assistant dean for minority affairs in the Office of Academic Student Affairs.

Dave Doeren was named assistant coach of the football team and will serve as the Badgers’ co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Wei Dong, School of Human Ecology, was appointed as Emily Mead Baldwin-Bascom Professor in the Arts.

Mike Hankwitz was named assistant coach of the football team and will serve as the defensive coordinator for the Badgers.

Ann Kinkade, director of the Madison Family Business Center, was appointed to the advisory board of the magazine In Business.

Linda Kirner was appointed as a human resources specialist within Classified Human Resources.

Thomas Kratochwill, professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, was appointed as the Sears Roebuck Foundation-Bascom Professor in Education.

Laura Schwendinger of the School of Music was appointed as Emily Mead Baldwin-Bascom Professor in the Arts.

David Trubek, School of Law, was appointed to the National Research Council committee conducting a review of federally supported international education projects.

Honored

UW–Madison was one of 10 NCAA Division I-A athletic departments and the only Big Ten school to receive the Diversity in Athletics Award presented annually by the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M University. This is the first time the Badger program was recognized.

Michael Apple, Department of Educational Policy Studies, has published two new books: “The Subaltern Speak: Curriculum, Power, and Educational Struggles,” and the second edition of his award-winning book, “Educating the ‘Right’ Way: Markets, Standards, God, and Inequality.”
