Major move-in days will affect campus traffic

August 25, 2006 By

An estimated 2,600 students will be moving into UW–Madison residence halls between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 30-31, making those the two busiest days of fall move-in activity on campus.

Students employed by University Housing, along with groups of students who obtained advance permission to move in earlier, will arrive between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27. They number approximately 1,300.

On all three days, a few streets will be closed or limited to one-way traffic, and some parking lots near the residence halls will be designated “for unloading only.” Employees who normally park in those lots are being asked to move to other locations.

The following streets will be restricted primarily to move-in traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

— Observatory Drive from Charter Street to Babcock Drive will be one way westbound.

— Elm Drive will be one way northbound from Observatory Drive.

— Willow Drive will be one way westbound between Elm Drive and Marsh Lane.

— Lake Street between Johnson and Dayton streets will be closed to all traffic.
