Magazine lauds UW-Madison leaders in hockey, film

July 26, 2006 By Barbara Wolff

Madison Magazine has awarded annual Editors’ Choice Awards to a pair of hockey coaches and the interim director of the Wisconsin Film Festival at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

The honorees are:

Mike Eaves, head coach of the UW–Madison men’s hockey team, and Mark Johnson, head coach of the UW–Madison women’s hockey team. Both teams won the national championship this year, but the magazine cites Eaves and Johnson for their cooperation and good will toward each other and their teams after Eaves was appointed head men’s coach over Johnson in 2002.

Meg Hamel, interim director of the Wisconsin Film Festival, honored with her mother, Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission Director Lynne Watrous Eich. Hamel assumed her duties in late November after longtime director Mary Carbine resigned the previous month to pursue opportunities in the private sector. Hamel, no stranger to the four-day festival, served previously as volunteer, venue and logistics director. Eich and Hamel are the magazine’s first mother-daughter honorees.

The Editors’ Choice Awards carry no monetary stipends. They appear in the August issue of Madison Magazine, available at selected retailers now and everywhere on Wednesday, Aug. 2.
