Lower campus community officer named

March 22, 1999 By

Veteran UW–Madison police officer Steve Sasso is the new Lower Campus community officer, succeeding Theo Darden, now the community policing training coordinator for the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

Sasso joined the department in 1977 as a security officer, then dispatcher. He became a police officer at UW-Whitewater in 1979, starting the first residence halls officer program there. Late in 1979, he returned to UW–Madison as a police officer.

Sasso has served as a liaison officer for University Housing and most recently for Intercollegiate Athletics. In addition to his work on the lower campus, he will continue as liaison to Athletics until a replacement is assigned.

Sasso hopes to survey the lower campus community this spring to find out the area’s concerns. Sasso can be reached at (608) 262-8088, or by paging him at (608) 265-7000, then entering Extension 4679.
