Kites on Ice returns to Memorial Union

Kites on Ice, a Wisconsin winter kite festival that attracted an estimated 80,000 visitors to campus last year, will return to Memorial Union and the ice of Lake Mendota on Saturday, Feb. 5, and Sunday, Feb. 6. The event, in its seventh year, will feature numerous outdoor and indoor activities revolving around a sport kiting theme.

Outdoor activities on Lake Mendota include kite flying, kite skiing, giant kites, ground displays, a terrain park and a skating rink. A Fire and Ice night flight, complete with choreography and a brief fireworks display, will take place from 6:15-7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Indoor activities include kite workshops, indoor kite flying and an art exhibit. The Wisconsin Union also will feature events during the weekend, including the Hoofer Winter Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 5.
