KINO filmmakers here for ‘Wis-kino’ anniversary

November 4, 2003 By Barbara Wolff

Wisconsin filmmakers up to the challenge are invited by a group of Montreal filmmakers to make a film in 48 hours. The KINO movement encourages filmmakers to “do well with nothing and do a little better with a little. And do it now!” The movement has chapters in Paris, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Hamburg. The Madison chapter, established last year, is so far the first and only KINO chapter in the United States.

The celebration of Wis-Kino’s first anniversary begins Thursday, Nov. 13, with a free, public reception at 4 p.m. in French House, 633 N. Francis St. Quebecois filmmakers will discuss in French the state of the art in their province. A screening of “KINO Around the World,” a showcase of KINO films, starts at 7 p.m. at the Electric Earth Cafe, 546 W. Washington Ave. Admission is $5. The 48-hour KINO shorts will follow on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the second-floor lounge of the Memorial Union. The screening is free and open to the public.

Wis-Kino anniversary events are sponsored by the UW–Madison Professional French Masters Program, the Wisconsin Film Festival, the Wisconsin Union Film Directorate Committee, Electric Eye Cinema and Wis-Kino.
