Kick off the spring semester with “On, Wisconsin!”

January 19, 2010 By Kiera Wiatrak

As the spring semester gets underway, tap into your creative side and enter the “On, Wisconsin!” video competition, commemorating the song’s 100th anniversary.

Hum it, strum it, play it, or say it — the contest, which runs through mid-April,  invites students, alumni and Wisconsin fans around the world to submit videos of themselves or others performing the school’s fight song.

A grand-prize winner will be chosen, as well as winners in the following categories:  most creative; farthest distance from Madison; and largest group performance.

Submissions should be e-mailed to onwisconsin@uc.wisc.edu for consideration and posting to the university’s YouTube site.

If you don’t have the equipment to make a video, e-mail Kiera Wiatrak at wiatrak@wisc.edu and we’ll try to hook you up.

Several early submissions were featured in “100 years of ‘On, Wisconsin!,’” a half-hour documentary, which premiered on the Big Ten Network in December and will be rebroadcast on the network at 3:30 p.m. (CST), Tuesday, Jan. 26.

The documentary explores the upbeat complex march through song, footage and exclusive interviews, including Al Toon, former football and track athlete; Mike Leckrone, director of the UW Marching Band; and Barry Alvarez, director of athletics and former head football coach.
