Jazz benefit to raise funds for Campus Child Care centers

May 6, 2009

Well-known local jazz singer Jan Wheaton, with the Jan Wheaton Quintet, will perform on Thursday, June 11, in a fundraising event to benefit the Campus Child Care centers.

The event will be held from 5–8:30 p.m. at the High Noon Saloon, 701 E. Washington Ave. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided, and a cash bar will be available. Event tickets are $30 and are available at the door or by calling 890-0436. There will be a silent auction and raffle drawings with many fabulous prizes donated by local businesses.

The campus child care system includes nine centers that serve approximately 600 children each week. All centers provide high-quality care and are accredited by the city of Madison. They provide early care and education for the children of faculty, staff and students while fulfilling the university’s mission of teaching, research and outreach.

This year’s event will honor campus administrators Darrell Bazzell and Alan Fish, who have been instrumental in moving forward the University Houses renovated facility project. In addition, eight “rising stars” will be introduced — teachers who inspire children with rich early learning experiences while stressing cooperation, kindness and community. They are Katie Goeser, Amanda Grefsheim, Stephanie Hook, Sharonn Radbil Cooper, Kelly Quirt, Mollie Lamers, Heather Davis and Krista Dignan.
