Jazz benefit honors four early childhood educators

May 13, 2008

Local jazz singer Jan Wheaton, with the Jan Wheaton Quintet, will perform in a fundraising event to benefit UW–Madison campus child care centers.

The event will be held from 5-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, at High Noon Saloon, 701 E. Washington Ave. Hors d’ oeuvres will be provided and a cash bar will be available. Event tickets are $30 and are available at the door or by calling (608) 890-0436. There will be a silent auction and raffle drawings with prizes donated by local businesses.

The campus child care system is comprised of nine centers that serve approximately 550 children each week. All centers provide early care and education for the children of UW–Madison faculty, staff and students while fulfilling the university’s mission of teaching, research, and outreach.

This year’s event will honor the accomplishments of four campus early childhood educators for their outstanding service to the university. Each teacher has provided exceptional, high-quality early childhood education services to hundreds of campus student, faculty and staff families. They are: Lisa Marie Carilli-McCord, Waisman Center; Barbara Farley, Eagle’s Wing; Vickie Blum, Bernie’s Place; and Carla Crabb, University Houses Preschool.

The teachers were selected based on the significant impact each provided to children and families during their careers, their commitment to the university child care system and the overall exceptional quality of their work with children and families.
