Investment board leader to speak at retirement meeting

November 4, 1999

Patricia Lipton, executive director of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, plans to explain the workings of the board Thursday, Nov. 11, at the fall general meeting of the UW–Madison Retirement Association.

The meeting is scheduled at 4 p.m. at the main office of the UW Credit Union, 3500 University Ave.

Organized last May, the association is open to all retired and about-to-be retired faculty and staff. President Alma Baron, professor emerita of business outreach, says the group aims to provide a forum for study and discussion of topics of interest and concern to retirees.

Standing committees include: financial matters in retirement; volunteering, travel (including retirement living elsewhere); healthy living in retirement, and computers.

In addition, Baron has appointed a blue ribbon Millennium Committee to help direct a productive debate on the societal impacts of the growing elderly population. The group is currently examining two themes — the economics of the growing elderly population and creating means of interchange between generations.
