November 6, 2012 By Kylie Peterson

The Indian Graduate Students’ Association (IGSA) at UW–Madison will celebrate Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights, by hosting Diwali Night 2012 on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Overture Center at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Diwali symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and is one of the most celebrated Indian holidays. The IGSA aims to share this festive tradition with campus students, faculty, staff and members of the Madison community. The event will unite Indians in the area and showcase Diwali and Indian culture to the public. Diwali Night 2012 will feature dancing, singing and other performances and has something for people of all ages.

The event is part of the IGSA’s larger goal of providing support for Indian students adjusting to campus lifestyle and promoting Indian heritage at UW–Madison. The group, which was founded in 1996, now has more than 1,400 members.
