Humor, flow characterize art at research center

January 31, 2006

Lynn Lau grew up on an oil palm plantation in tropical Malaysia. “I’m finally getting the hang of winter,” she says, having graduated from UW–Madison in 2001 with a degree in communication arts.

Specializing in line art, Lau says that her pieces invariably differ in themes but are united in style.

“I like making art accessible to all,” she says. “There should not be labels, categories or boundaries hindering artistic growth or creative communities.”

Lau also uses art as a vehicle for humor, she says. “Be bold. If you can’t be bold, be italics.”

Her work will be on display in 108 Ingraham Hall through March. For information or viewing hours, contact the UW–Madison Women’s Studies Research Center at 263-2053 or wsrc@mailplus.wisc.edu or visit http://www.womenstudies.wisc.edu/WSRC/newart.htm.
