Homecoming parade to affect traffic patterns on Oct. 17

October 13, 2003 By

Motorists – especially commuters who use Langdon Street and Wisconsin Avenue to avoid the West Johnson Street reconstruction area – will need to negotiate some campus-area street closures on Friday, Oct. 17, due to the Homecoming parade:

  • The parade staging area, which includes the 600 block of North Lake Street and Langdon Street between Lake Street and Wisconsin Avenue, will be closed from 3-6:30 p.m.
  • Traffic will be restricted in the 700 and 800 blocks of Langdon Street (between Park and Lake streets) from 3-5 p.m. Those two blocks will be closed to traffic from 5-8 p.m.
  • The parade route will be closed from 6-7 p.m. It begins at the top of Wisconsin Avenue, turns right onto Gilman Street, and follows Gilman to State Street. It then moves down State Street and turns right onto North Lake Street, where it ends. In addition to the route, the 100 block of Broom Street will be closed during the parade.

Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians are urged to be alert for barricades and signs, as well as police officers directing traffic. Tickets will be issued to those who have parked illegally. Access to the Lake Street ramp will not be impeded by the street closures. Area residents are encouraged to park there or to make alternate arrangements.
