Holocaust made ‘Manifest’ in Jewish Theater Project production

December 6, 2006

“Manifest” playwright Brian Silberman takes great issue with films such as “Schindler’s List,” “Amistad” and “Dances With Wolves.”

“These movies don’t teach. They don’t reach an audience that might otherwise be ignorant of some wrong,” Silberman has said. “What audiences learn is that they are better than the villain.’’

“Manifest,” then, became an unexpected, perhaps shocking, depiction of a Nazi concentration camp on the eve of its liberation. Hillel’s Jewish Theater Project will present the play at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 12 and 13, in the Memorial Union’s Frederic March Play Circle.

The play is free and open to all, but tickets are required. Get them at UW–Madison’s Hillel, 611 Langdon St., or call 256-8361, e-mail info@uwhillel.org or visit http://www.uwhillel.org/.
