Harris speaker on the cutting edge of fashion, technology

March 21, 2006

Sandy Black, who teaches at the London College of Fashion and is the author of “Knitwear in Fashion,” will deliver the 2006 Ruth Ketterer Harris Memorial Lecture, presented by the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection.

Black will speak on “Contemporary Knitting: The Intersection of Fashion, Craft, Art and Technology.”

Students on all levels in all disciplines will get a global perspective from this London-based speaker, says Virginia Boyd, professor of environment, textiles and design.

“We also find that having guest speakers is the beginning of future connections for both students and faculty and staff,” Boyd says. “No matter what our students do when they graduate they will be doing it in a global context. It is essential that they experience their field from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.”

Black will lecture at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in L160 of the Chazen Museum of Art. The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Molly Greenfield, 262-1162 or mgreenfield@wisc.edu.
