No, he’s not that bounty hunter guy on cable’s A&E channel.

Rather, David Grisman — “Old Dawg” — plays music of the same name, which he describes as a fortuitous melding of swing, bluegrass, Celtic, Latin, jazz and gypsy, to list but a few.

You can get a sample of what this genre is like on Friday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. in the Wisconsin Union Theater.

Grisman, a past master of the mandolin and a composer, also has worked with the Grateful Dead, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and many others. Joining Grisman will be the Old School Freight Train, a five-member acoustic ensemble.

Tickets, $18 general/$10 students, include a post-concert dance party featuring South Austen’s Two High String Band. Contact the Wisconsin Union Theater Box Office, 262-2201, for ticket availability.
