Greeks unite for Langdon Street neighborhood watch

March 22, 2007 By John Lucas

The Langdon Street Neighborhood Watch will host a safety awareness event at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 in front of Gamma Phi Beta, 217 Langdon Street.

Late-night safety has been an important issue in the campus community over the past year. The event is being held to promote awareness, bring those leading the safety effort together, and to celebrate the efforts of those who have been working to make the Langdon Street community a safer place to walk home.

Among those expected to attend will be Madison Police Officer Tony Fiore and members of the University of Wisconsin–Madison community, student organizations, and broader Madison community.

At 11 p.m., the Langdon Street Neighborhood Watch will begin its patrol, with members of Delta Tau Delta and Gamma Phi Beta scheduled to walk.

"This Saturday marks an opportunity for the university, Greek, and Madison communities to come together and stand as one to raise awareness on downtown public safety," says Alex Sheridan, member of Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, who has played an integral part in organizing the Langdon Street Watch. "Each individually has done a great deal over the past few months to make the community as safe as possible, but Saturday will serve to emphasize and recognize unified and collaborative communal efforts to ensure safety for everyone living on or off campus."
