Geology museum open house set for May 2

April 30, 1998

Dinosaur masks, a free rock pile for kids and a special exhibit of mineral and fossil stamps are a few of the highlights of this year’s UW–Madison Geology Museum open house.

Set for Saturday, May 2 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Geology Museum open house has become a popular spring tradition enjoyed each year by hundreds of children and their families. The open house features hands-on activities for youngsters, slide shows and special exhibits in geology and paleontology.

This year, the open house features dinosaur mask-making, courtesy of Plan B Design Studio of Hazel Green, Wis., the opportunity to watch museum preparators restore fossil dinosaur bones, and slide shows on plate tectonics and dinosaur prospecting. In addition, a special exhibit of a groundwater model by the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey will be on display in the museum lobby.

The open house is free and open to all. The Geology Museum is located in Weeks Hall, 1215 W. Dayton St.
