Four short plays celebrate Beckett centennial

September 5, 2006

Playwright Samuel Beckett marks 100 years this year, and University Theatre offers four plays, all of them examples of Beckett’s “Theatre of the Absurd,” to celebrate.

“The Beckett Project,” done in conjunction with the production company The Llanarth Group, features “Not I,” “Ohio Impromptu,” “Act Without Words I” and “Rockaby,” enacted by theater artists from the Department of Theatre and Drama.

Opening night is Friday, Sept. 15. Subsequent presentations are Saturday, Sept. 16, and Tuesday-Saturday, Sept. 19-23. Those curtains rise at 7:30 p.m. in Hemsley Theatre, Vilas Hall. A matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, is also offered in the same venue.

Tickets, $18 general/$14 students and seniors, are available at the Vilas Hall Box Office, 262-1500.
