Five Questions With…

Brett Nemke is a senior research specialist in the Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine. The lab works with bone remodeling and joint tissue injuries. Nemke’s responsibilities include budgeting, protocol writing and revision, scheduling, animal care, and surgical assistance.

1. How long have you worked at UW–Madison?

I started working at the veterinary school in 1996.

2. What made you want to work at UW–Madison?

At the time I was interested in coming back to school for veterinary medicine, but first I wanted to work in the setting to see if I wanted to devote the time and money involved with going back to school. I took a job as a researcher and have enjoyed it so much that I continue to do it.

3. What has made you want to continue working at UW–Madison?

I like the benefit package that the university has and the good working atmosphere here at UW.

4. What do you like about your job?

I really like the diversity of activities that I am involved in with my job. I also really enjoy seeing all of the new research and cutting-edge technology in medicine that I am exposed to and get to work with.

5. What is your favorite memory of UW–Madison?

As a whole I would have to say that it would be all the time I spent with the marching band, and in particular the trip to Tokyo and the Rose Bowl during my senior year as an undergraduate.
