Fall Roundtable schedule set

University Roundtable has announced its fall program schedule.

  • 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, Tripp Commons, Memorial Union: Luanne von Schneidemesser will speak on “Wisconsin Words: From Lawyers and Kneecaps to Golden Birthdays, Rumpelkammers, and Ramps.” She will discuss how the ethnic and cultural groups that settled Wisconsin have influenced and enriched our language, and how language continues to change. Von Schneidemesser is senior editor for the Dictionary of American Regional English and part of the Wisconsin English project.
  • 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, Tripp Commons, Memorial Union: Judith Leavitt, emeritus professor of medical history and bioethics, traced the history of men during childbirth in her most recent book. “Make Room for Daddy” looks at the male view of childbirth, from the chain-smoking-in-the-waiting room era of the 1930s to the Lamaze-trained labor coaches of the 1980s.
  • 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, Great Hall, Memorial Union: The December Roundtable will showcase the talents of students who are enrolled in the Early Music Ensemble with “A Sampling of Early Music in a Tudor Setting.” This event will be held on Tuesday instead of the usual Wednesday, and the hall will be decorated in Tudor style.

Programs are open to members of the university community and their guests. Each luncheon costs $10. The reservation deadline is one week before each event.
