As part of its 80th anniversary, the Dance Program is celebrating the work of 20th century artistic genius Alwin Nikolais.
Nikolais’ “Tensile Involvement” will be showcased in the upcoming Fall Faculty Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday–Saturday, Nov. 16–18, in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space at Lathrop Hall.
Guest artist in residence Alberto “Tito” del Saz, former artistic director of the Murray Louis and Nikolais Dance Co., is reconstructing the work and conducting rehearsals with 10 student dancers in preparation for the performance.
Along with the Nikolais work, visiting artist Chris Walker will present “Hill n Gully,” which draws heavily on Jamaican and Caribbean traditional folklore, and “Variations a Ska,” which includes contemporary explorations of the “ska” movement and a procession of the Jamaican physical vernacular, which represents many aspects of Jamaican society.
Tickets are $12 for the general public and $8 for students, except on Thursday, when student tickets are $5. All tickets will be sold at the door.
